Elizabeth Street was named after New South Wales Governor Richard Bourke’s wife, Elizabeth Bourke.
As the Governor’s wife, her role included organising fundraising luncheons, dinner parties, and garden soirées and she was on the committees of various charities.
As the story goes, Governor Burke would refer to his beloved wife as “Betsy Jane”.
With a shared love of getting people together and contributing to charitable causes, we couldn’t think of a more fitting name for our coffee house right here on Melbourne’s bustling Elizabeth street.
